Solar Panels

PV Solar Panels
Photovoltaic solar panels (PV panels) are constructed in a rigid frame with a glass surface, these are the most common type of solar panel and most domestic solar panels are PV. We stock both 12v and 24v polycrystalline panels from top brands: Solar Technology, Sunforce, Yingli and Inprosolar
PV solar panels in the UK are widely used for professional and leisure activities: from 12v trickle feed battery chargers for cars, boats and caravans; to power system kits for off-grid buildings such as offices, beach huts, stables and garages.
PV Solar panels have no moving parts, and are therefore, silent and reliable; producing environmentally clean, safe electricity in the form of Direct Current (DC) electricity similar to that released by batteries. The panel harvests the light and in most cases uses a battery to store the charge. Our full solar panel kits are ready to go packs that have all the components for easy installation to make use of the free abundant energy from the sun.
A full solar home system can be a large investment but with smaller, versatile power station kits you can take advantage of applying power to off -grid buildings and uses without a heavy outlay. Savings and payback are realised more quickly and the kits are portable for moving to a new location.
Amorphous or Crystalline?
PV rigid, glass solar panels use crystalline technology and are heavy and not easy to move around. Domestic solar kits are generally PV Crystalline as they perform better in good conditions and have a smaller surface area of cells for harvesting than amorphous.
Flexible, rollable, fold-up panels use amorphous cells, the advantage is they perform better under low light conditions and don't suffer power loss in hot temperatures making them the ideal travel companion for hot climate expeditions. The size of the amorphous panel is larger than a crystalline for the same wattage output but they are lighter, more robust and flexible.
Choose PV crystalline for at home installations and amorphous for travel and portability.
Flexi Panels
Flexible solar panels are most popular for marine application due to their rugged, lightweight and hardwearing properties. A flexi panel can be walked on and mounted in various ways such as glue, wrapped round a bimini or boom with a bungee cord, bolted to railing or hanged by a hook. Strong velcro has been known to be used. When placed on a deck the panel can be walked on with soft shoes.
Flexi panels are made with use amorphous technologies, which tend to cover a larger area per watt than crystalline technologies. Unlike crystalline technologies, Flexi panels do not suffer reduced power output at higher temperatures. The panels perform well under low light conditions typically found in the UK.
Flexible panels are lightweight making them versatile and portable: useful for trekking, expeditions, cycling or kayaking.
Power film rollable solar panels
Powerfilm is a rollable solar panel made from flexible solar modules in a thin film substrate. With all the properties of a flexible solar but with the ability of being rolled into a tube Power Film is perfect for boats, camping, trekking and expeditions.
Foldable solar panels
A portable solar panel solution as an option for expeditions, trekking or camping. Lightweight and compact fold-up solar panels have no glass making them more robust and light. Fold-up solar panels perform well under low light conditions and are weather proof. They can be unfolded and strapped to your backpack with the re-inforced eyelets (and your bungie cord), so you can charge your electronics on the move.
Solar Panel Kits for motorhomes and caravans
A popular choice for camping and RV vehicles a solar panel kit will keep your battery topped up and provide power for longer off grid journeys on remote locations. A solar kit has all the components and instructions needed for easy installation. The various kits range from 10w to 150w your requirements will depend on the level of usage you expect and the longer you want to be off-grid. To help choose the right size kit for your use see here.
Freedom to roam and enjoy time away from caravan sites solar panel kits are quiet, environmentally friendly and will provide free energy making money savings over time. From trickle feeding a battery to running a fridge and TV a perfect addition to any caravan or camper.
